We get asked many times by therapists and end-users about the term ‘Carbonic Acid Therapy’. But why exactly do we utilise this form of treatment within our HOCATT chambers, and what are the benefits? Carbonic Acid Therapy is used to help aid in rejuvenating the body for health, cosmetic and pharmaceutical reasons. Carbon Dioxide converts to Carbonic Acid when presented within steam, which is utilised within our therapeutic HOCATT steam sauna chamber. Carbonic acid is essentially Carbon Dioxide dissolved in water!

The connotation of the word ‘acid’ is perhaps unfortunate, as this is simply an essential compound; much like lactic acid, in fact! Interestingly, Carbonic acid is actually only slightly more acidic than lactic acid, and is described by chemists as an important binding agent under physiological conditions.

Users sit within a HOCATT wellness chamber for 25-30 minutes. In the carbonic acid pre-cycle, humidified oxygen enters the bloodstream nasally; CO2 reacts with the steam and converts into carbonic acid; this calms the body and dilates the blood vessels, also increasing blood circulation, cellular uptake and delivery of oxygen. This is known as the Bohr Effect.

Carbonic Acid within what is often termed ‘ozone therapy’ has the ability to penetrate effortlessly into the skin and bloodstream, due to its highly soluble state, which increases the oxygen absorption ability of blood, muscles and skin. This also increases the energy production needed for the body to sustain, protect, and improve the central nervous system, and also sedate and vaso-dilate the blood vessels.

What They Say About Us

I bought the HOCATT for personal use due to chronic back pain for the last 20 years, I find the relaxing benefits of the steam sauna added with the ozone treatment and the Far Infrared treatment keeps my back pain at a minimal level with an annual visit to the osteopath. I have used all the components of the Hocatt to enjoy a general well being, with a busy life style the steam sauna helps me to have a good nights sleep, it has eradicated my skin problem which was undiagnosed but I did not wish to take steroids, I found that as soon as it started to flare I would have three sessions of steam sauna therapy and the itching and redness disappeared.
